Turning in his script in July 2002, J. J. Abrams' Superman: Flyby movie was an origin story that included Krypton besieged by civil war between Jor-El and his corrupt brother, Kata-Zor. Jor-El launches infant Kal-El to Earth, thinking he would fulfill a certain prophecy and Jor-El is sentenced to prison.
Ok, so we dodged a Schumacher bullet and maybe lost out on a film better than Superman Returns?
